When we write out our Journal Article for this Lab, there will be two sections that are new to us. The descriptions below explain how to write these new sections:

Abstract

This is a single paragraph that includes the study's purpose. The hypothesis being tested,methods used, results obtained, and conclusions drawn are also included. It should be a way to catch the reader's’ attention in order to make them want to keep reading. Very often, the Author of the article will write the Abstract last, as it would be easiest to give a 2-3 sentence summary of the entire Journal Article after it has already been written.

Introduction

The introduction should be about one to two paragraphs in length. It describes any important background information. These may include relevant observations made before the experiment or the importance of the questions being addressed. Here, too, the researcher can explain how and why the hypothesis was developed. It gives more information than an abstract, but some additional background of the information that was obtained when the prior research was done before the experiment (or pre-lab).
